Artek
Artek is a Finnish furniture manufacturer, founded in 1935 by Alvar Aalto and his wife Aino to promote and produce Aalto's furniture and glassware. The name 'Artek' was chosen to reflect their desire to combine art and technology (prior to 1935 Aalto's designs were manufactured Huonekalutehdas Korhonen Oy in Turku). Related, Finmar Ltd. was set up to market Aalto's work to the UK market.
Some of the most notable furniture produced by Artek include the Paimio Chair, Leg Stool 60 and Leg Stool X600.
Artek now has a range of in-house designers including Ben Af Schultén and is now part of Vitra.
