William Evan 12 bore side by side shot gun 11178 with case
William Evans 12 bore side by side sidelock ejector shotgun, No.2 of a pair, serial number 11178, with 28" barrels, engraved William Evans 63 Pall Mall St. James London, both choked 3/4", finely engraved scrollwork action, removable striker discs, chequered stock with plain escutcheon, chequered but with scrollwork engraved steel caps, with a William Evans leather case (probably not original to the gun) branded CFMS fitted with cleaning rod and jags and a pair of William Evans branded snap caps.
UK SHOTGUN LICENCE OR RFD REQUIRED TO BID ON THIS LOT.

Part of the gunmaker's art was in the casing, and the finest firearms were often supplied in case with all the accessories needed to load, fire, clean and maintain the weapon. These are a delight to collectors today and the case and related accessories can be just as interesting if not more so than the rifle or shotgun itself.
