Arthur Delaney (1927-1987), High Street, Sheffield, signed, titled and dated 1975 on gallery label - 'Hibbert Brothers, Sheffield' verso, authenticated by the artist's son on verso, oil on board, 31.5 x 21.5cm.; 12.5 x 8.5in. A City Street. The street is High Street, Sheffield in the 1930's. This is a spontaneous oil sketch that was used to make a more important painting from. However it has a quality of its own and I think captures the period as I well remember the greeny light when late sunlight was filtering through the smokey skys that the clean air bill has removed from life as we know it today.
