Japanese 50 bore Matchlock

Japanese 50 bore Matchlock, 37.5inch barrel, with script under the barrel to read ‘Goshu Kunitomo’ (province of manufacture) ‘Kyubei Kyoho’, (gunsmiths family name) and ‘Niju makibari’ (Two Wraps or Double Layer) fitted into Akagashi, red oak stock decorated with brass work (a bag of replacement brass work is also supplied, which was laser cut using an existing piece as a template)

The smith lived and worked in the most famous gun-smithing village of Kunitomo, east of Lake Biwa. The Teppo stock is decorated, reminiscent more of Sakai. Dating it to mid to late Edo – 1750 to 1867. The mon/kamon is the wood sorrel – one of the 10 most used family emblems in Japan for ‘Ken Katabami’

Section 58 (2) Antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out.
