Lot 19

19

Unusual Smith and Wesson type .32 rimfire revolver, of large full-size revolver proportions, probably of English make, 4.5inch octagonal barrel, seven shot cylinder with Birmingham proof marks, nickel plated brass frame engraved with scrollwork, finely chequered wood grips. Fitted into a Mahogany case containing an oil bottle and cartridge stand.

This revolver was subject to a post on the Smith & Wesson forum where is was initially thought to be made by Webley however one contributor claimed that all Webley copies featured the S&W patent number whilst commenting that the cylinder locks were post 1870 making it more likely to be a post-patent Tranter. It has also been suggested that the flower engraved around the sideplate screw was a Tranter identification mark.

Section 58 (2) Antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18.

Dimensions: The box measures 30cm x 24cm
