Sales Report

Our first Fine Jewellery & Watches auction of 2021 boasted a wonderful selection of diamond, gemstone, designer and antique jewellery. With pieces from all categories selling well, our bidders fought it out over three online bidding platforms, as well as telephone and commission bidding. 

 

Diamond Jewellery

The diamond pieces this sale sold particularly well. With our bidders drawn to statement diamond rings, featuring a range of diamond cuts and designs but one thing in common, a sensational fire and brilliance. An exceptional diamond cluster ring, consigned from a local Cheshire lady and set with just under 5cts of round brilliant cut diamonds was one of our most popular lots in the run up to the sale, and sold to a local bidder for £3,416. 

 

An 18ct gold diamond cluster ring, the brilliant cut diamond within a similarly cut diamond surround, principal diamond estimated 1.20cts, J-K colour, SI2-P1 clarity, estimated total diamond weight 4.80cts, hallmarks for Birmingham, ring size L, gross weight 8.4g. Sold for £3,416.

 

An impressive emerald cut diamond dress ring, formed from a diamond solitaire ring and diamond band ring enticed our savvy bidders. With the central stone weighing 1.06cts, and accompanied by a certificate from GSI, this breathtaking piece went to the winning bidder for £2,196. Another ring with a central Asscher cut diamond, within a stylish and Deco inspired calibré cut sapphire and single cut diamond surround caught the interest of several bidders, and eventually selling for £1,830. An old cut diamond solitaire ring with a central stone of approx. 1.10cts sold for £1,342, and a stylish old cut and step cut diamond three stone ring reached £976.

Gemstones

Bright and vibrant coloured gemstone set jewels also sold very well, with sapphires the stone of choice in this auction. A pair of beautiful pink sapphire, diamond and cultured pearl drop earrings sold to a very lucky bidder for £1,098. A pair of diamond band rings, suspending briolette cut pink sapphires also sold well reaching £439. Meanwhile a golden yellow sapphire and diamond ring in a gorgeous geometric setting sold for £915.

A sapphire and diamond cluster ring, the rectangular shape yellow sapphire weighing approx. 1ct within a brilliant cut diamond surround and similarly cut diamond sides, estimated total diamond weight 0.50ct, stamped PLAT, ring size O1/2, gross weight 4.8g.

Antique Jewels

A Wiener Werkstatte silver locket designed by Berthold Loffler sold exceptionally well and sold £1,037, nearly five times its pre sale estimate. This stylish piece was in fantastic condition and was a great example of seccessionist movement design.

A pair of Victorian drop earrings, each designed as a cannetille hoop suspended from a floral tapered surmount, length 3.4cm, gross weight 3.8g.

A very sweet and highly wearable pair of Victorian earrings also attracted a huge amount of interest prior to the sale. This eye-catching pair of earrings exceeded their estimate and sold to an online bidder for £260.

 

Timed Jewellery Sale

Our Timed Jewellery & Watches Sale also performed well, with bidders battling it out right up until the closing of the sale. The top selling lot was a group of charms, featuring two unique hinged locket charms, opening to reveal original glazed panels within. This sweet little lot attracted international attention and sold to the winning bidder for £854. Other group lots of jewellery sold well, some groups fetching up £700 with bidders eagerly snapping up these interesting, varied and unique lots. 

A 9ct gold hinged bangle, of typical form, with floral engraving to front, hallmarks for Birmingham, inner diameter 6cm, gross weight 20.5g.

A selection of charms, to include a sapphire bean shaped hinged locket charm, a turquoise shamrock hinged locket charm, a 9ct gold heart charm, an enamel heart charm and three others, lengths 1 to 2.2cm (7). Sold for £854.
