Mirror Mirror

A pair of early 19th century Giran

A pair of early 19th-century Girandole, these mirrors are supporting the original glass with gesso frame. Gesso is a hard plaster of Paris compound or whiting in glue moulded or sculpted as a base for gilding or painting on a wooden or wireframe.  Girandole is a branch support for candles or other lights, which project from a wall generally in the front of a mirror to give extra reflective light. The pair of mirrors on offer in our next fine art sale, Thursday 14th February.  Lot number 377 has the added attraction of incorporating a silk-lined bracket to display a porcelain figure or similar decorative.  Estimate £1,000 – 1,500 they would be a splendid addition to a home.
