Ombrellino

Liturgical Interest - July Fine & Classic Sale

Entered into our fine art auction on 8th July is a lot of liturgical interest, consigned from a Cheshire family. Not a word familiar to many, an ombrellino is a canopy that is held over the host when carried in a procession. The term dates back to the mid 19th century, noted for use with a Roman Catholic priest (Lexico.com).

An exquisitely detailed and ornately embroidered example, our ombrellino forms a rectangular shape shade, with tapestry edges, gold thread embroidery and fringe detailing.

Crafted by Liverpool-based firm Hayes & Finch, this wonderful piece is offered with an estimate of £200-400. Hayes & Finch were formed in 1882 by William Hayes and James Finch. For over 130 years, Hayes & Finch have manufactured and supplied products for the Church, and they are deemed as the world's leading manufacturers of church furnishings.

In great condition and still with original box, this lot is expected to generate interest from collectors throughout Cheshire and beyond. For further information on the piece, or any of the other lots featured in this sale, contact us using the email below.
