We hold four dedicated Northern Art auctions each year featuring the work of Anglesey artist Wilf Roberts. We offer a free appraisal service for anyone considering consigning items to these auctions.

Wilf Roberts Overview

Wilf Roberts was born in 1941 on Anglesey, an area that inspired much of his work. He never believed when he was growing up that it was possible to make a living as an artist, as at the time there were no outlets for artists in Wales; instead, he trained as an art teacher and spent 13 years teaching in London. He returned to Anglesey in the 1970s, and was employed in local government and education while continuing to paint as a hobby. He retired in 1996 to concentrate on painting.

Since 1996 he’s contributed to many successful exhibitions in London and throughout Wales. His work is now in both public and private collections in The Hague, Amsterdam, as well as Paris, New York and Australia. Wilf Roberts creates his distinctive, textured paintings by applying the paint not only with palette knives but also sticks, brushes, fingers or even the edge of credit cards to get the required result.

Wilf Roberts’ inspiration comes from the Wales of his childhood, and his paintings have a nostalgic feel with cottages and farmhouses nestling amongst hills and fields. He once said that the only modern thing he puts into his paintings is telegraph poles, and his beautifully coloured, heavily textured landscapes have a wide appeal. His most popular paintings are of Anglesey, and in particular the square mile around his home area of Mynydd Bodafon, as they reflect a deep knowledge and intimate understanding of the subject matter. As with all artwork, the value of Wilf Robert’s work varies a little according to the size and subject matter. Our strong and established reputation as auctioneers of Welsh Art means that we’re often asked to sell works by sought-after artists such as Wilf Roberts.
