Clocks and Barometers

Clocks and barometers feature as a specialist category in our Fine & Classic auctions, held four times a year, and we offer a free valuation on items considered for sale. Our sales regularly include antique longcase, bracket and mantel clocks by named makers such as Dent, Frodsham and Knibb.

Our clock auctions regularly feature antique clocks and barometers dating from the late 17th century onwards, by makers including Dent, Frodsham and Knibb. Clocks and barometers are valued by collectors both for their place in the history of scientific advancement and for their appearance.

A clock's value is largely determined by supply and demand, with rarity, condition, historical significance and identifying features such as a label or maker's signature all playing a part. To qualify as an antique, a clock must be at least 100 years old, though age alone does not guarantee value, and newer pieces can still be prized by collectors.

Valuable clocks can turn up in unexpected places, such as an attic or a car boot sale, and may achieve a strong price at auction.
