Amongst the top hammer prices for Cyma watches, the 'Clamshell' watch are large, waterproof chronographs dating from the 1940s. Measuring 38mm in diameter, these impressive timepieces feature tachymeter, telemeter and pulsation scales, double subsidiary dials as well as pushers to 2 and 4. Powered by a Valjoux movement, these highly sought-after watches can reach thousands of pounds at auction.
During the Second World War the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) ordered timepieces from 12 watch companies for use by British troops on the front line. Cyma was one of the famed 'Dirty Dozen' watchmakers, producing 20,000 timepieces of the total 150,000 order. The Dirty Dozen wristwatches are incredibly sought-after by collectors keen to complete the set! Characterised by their 'W.W.W' inscription to case back, broad arrow to dial, black dial, arabic markers, luminous dots and hands within a stainless steel case, these watches are certainly worth selling at auction.
