Lot 121 in our 20th Century Art & Design sale on the 18th of February is a Hohm German driving school model. Mounted on a wooden plinth this working model has mechanical parts that are cut away so you can see how it works. The steering is fully operational and to operate the selector simply depress the clutch and use the small gear lever. The ratchet-operated handbrake is also in full working order.
Hohm were German manufacturers who were well known for making models for driving schools. The models were used by teachers to educate students on how the vehicle worked. This 1954 model is in unusually original condition with a wonderful patination. Clutch, brakes and other mechanical parts along with the electric lights can be seen to be working. Unfortunately one rear light cluster appears to have a wiring fault. The model is also mounted on leaf springs.
We have a number of driving and engineering models for sale in our upcoming 20th Century Art & Design auction on the 18th February. The full catalogue can be seen here.
