We are delighted to share the results of our September Fine Jewellery & Watches sale, which proved to be another successful auction.  Over 80% of lots sold, with strong competitive bidding throughout.

The sale featured a fantastic selection of lots, with collections from private Cheshire homes, alongside an eclectic mix of antique, vintage and contemporary jewellery.  Many lots comfortably exceeded their estimates, demonstrating continued confidence in the jewellery market and particularly strong demand for gold.

What's selling?

Brooches proved particularly popular, with strong interest in Edwardian and Victorian examples.  Victorian jewellery continues to perform well, while old-cut diamonds are also attracting attention.

Pearls were another standout, with all of the pearl necklaces in the sale finding buyers.  Tiffany pieces and coloured gemstones also generated strong interest.

Charm bracelets remain a perennial favourite, with this particularly interesting 9ct white gold charm bracelet from a local private home, adorned with gemstones, achieving an impressive £2,500.

Gold continues to shine

With gold prices remaining strong, it was no surprise to see significant interest in gold jewellery and watches.  However, the results also highlighted an important point for anyone considering selling their unwanted gold.  Many of our gold lots achieved prices significantly above their scrap value.  An item can have more value as a piece of jewellery than simply for its metal content, particularly where it has desirable design, age, gemstones, provenance or collectability.

Jewellery with a Story

A number of pieces in the sale came from private home collections, giving buyers the opportunity to acquire jewellery that had been carefully kept and enjoyed within families for many years.  One lovely example was a 9ct rose gold curb-link T-bar chain, beautifully preserved and kept within the same family for many years, selling for an impressive £2,100.
