Watches

We hold four dedicated watch auctions each year, and our valuation service is free for items consigned for sale. Our sales feature wristwatches by well-known makers including Rolex, Patek Philippe, Omega and Breitling, alongside pocket watches dating from the 17th century onwards.

Our watch auctions feature wristwatches from names such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Omega and Breitling, along with pocket watches dating from the 17th century onwards. A watch's value rests on the quality of its craftsmanship, its appearance and its materials, with rare items, complications and limited-run movements selling for substantial sums.

Vintage Rolex Explorers, Daytonas and Submariners, and Omega Seamasters and Speedmasters, have all performed strongly, and there is steady demand for good-quality pre-owned watches.

In an era when accurate time is available via the microchip, a luxury wristwatch offers something distinct: style, engineering and status. Pocket watches give collectors a purist view of earlier watchmaking.

Demand from international buyers, helped by the wealth of information now online, has accelerated vintage watch prices in recent years.

The market is particularly strong for military-issue watches from the Second World War and the later "tool" watches built for submariners, airmen and sportsmen.
