A diamond single stone ring.
The Barion cut diamond weighing approx. 0.80ct within a partial rub-over setting, to the textured and polished band, estimated colour J-K, estimated clarity VS, stamped 750, ring size K1/2, gross weight 4.8g.
The 'Barion' cut was developed in the 1970s in South Africa by Basil Watermeyer. The name was formed by merging his own name, with that of his wife Marion's, resulting in 'Barion.' The Barion cut is a mixed cut, featuring triangular and kite shaped facets as a modification or alternative to more standardised cuts - this complex cut was never trademarked and so still used to this day, resulting in a preferable colour and yield from the rough material.
Our vendor was personal acquaintances with both Basil and Marion Watermeyer in the 1970s-80s, and so acquired this stone from them to be set in this wonderful band setting.
