A Hand-Signed Series "D" Pictorial Issue (June 1980), Five Pounds banknote, signature: D.H.F. Somerset, blue and multicoloured, reverse printed by lithography, small 'L' on reverse, 145.5 x 78mm, prefix KY90 659079, BE113c, uncirculated and signed in pen by the Chief Cashier D.H.F. Somerset, very rare.
The vendor's mother worked at the Liverpool branch of the Bank of England in the 1980's when D.H.F. Somerset was the Chief Cashier (1980-1988). We can only assume that this was hand-signed during this period by David Henry FitzRoy Somerset and as such is exceedingly rare.

Banknotes are well represented in this sale with a good selection of Bank of England, Isle of Man and Scottish banknotes to include two very rare hand-signed banknotes by the then Chief Cashier - D.H.F. Somerset.
