Polynesian war club, probably Tongan, with double edged paddle form, cut with a gridwork of triangles and diamonds, filled in with white pigment.
Brought back to England by James Stapleton (born in 1864 in Rotherhithe London) while serving in the Royal Navy, abroad many ships including the Calliope. Scans of some of Stapleton's naval records can be provided to the buyer.
