Joy Altaras, 20th century, Street scene with horse and cart, signed and dated '80, oil on board, 61 x 48.5cm.; 24 x 19in. * Joy fulfilled her ambition to graduate in art and design from Salford university after her studies were interrupted by the Second World War. She went on to paint in and around Salford with Harold Riley - the two sharing a love of observing people going about their lives. She also joined painting holidays in Europe. Altaras has exhibited in many galleries, mostly in Manchester and London and has won awards at the Yorkshire Show, the Laing Exhibitions and the Mall Galleries of Women Artists.
