Engine part from crashed USAAF aircraft (Arthur Brown who avoided Nantwich sacrificing his life during WW2).

World war two relic from the Republic P-47D Thunderbolt crash on the outskirts of Nantwich a valve rocker arm from the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 double wasp engine, numbered 57756, the bearing stamped N.D. 55601 -A-M Made in USA. 11cm long. On the 14th January 1944 Thunderbolt 42-7925 RCAF was piloted by 1st Lt. Arthur Brown aged 23 of New York. The Thunderbolt developed engine trouble and rather than bail out Lt Brown heroically stayed with the plane to avoid hitting the town of Nantwich. The Thunderbolt crashed near the River Weaver. Brown's body and the main structure of the plane were never recovered due to sinking sand. This valve rocker was found by Harold Forster then living in Station View Nantwich.
