Late 18th century French portable sundial compass by Duhamel, Paris. The Butterfield-type instrument with a hinged gnomon, featuring a bird pointer. Underside with an engraved table of latitudes for 21 cities, mainly French to include Paris, Brest, Bordeaux, Nantes, Turin, Madrid and others. The instrument is housed in a red velvet lined, black leather case.
Dimensions: Instrument is 7.6cm long, 6.5cm wide.
