Pair of Prince of Wales 1969 Investiture chairs

Pair Prince of Wales 1969 investiture chairs by Remploy designed by Anthony Charles Robert Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon, constructed from laminated olive ash stained vermillion red, the backs bearing gilt Prince of Wales feathers and his motto ICH DIEN (I serve) with red pad seats, the underside of each seat bears a Prince of Wales feathers stamp and 1969, 78cm high.

Re-upholstered to current fire safety regulations by Mick Sheridan Upholstery using re-manufactured cloth from the original Welsh tweed mill that supplied to Remploy in 1969. During the re-upholstery work the original screws securing seat to frame were maintained to insure originality.

4,000 of these chairs were produced for the Prince of Wales’s (now King Charles III) investiture in 1969. Lord Snowdon’s design was manufactured by disabled workers at the Remploy factory in Bridgend. Guests at the ceremony were invited to purchase their chairs after the event and for £12 received their chair flat packed Ikea style for them to reassemble.

Sold for £650
