WWI / WWII D.S.C. medal set and 1856 pattern Dirk for Lieutenant Edward James Brown (b.1900), to include the Distinguished Service Cross, British War Medal 1914-1918, Victory Medal named 18320 E.J. Brown, B.Art R.N., The 1939-1945 Star, The Atlantic Star, The Africa Star with North Africa 1942-43 clasp, The Italy Star, and the War Medal 1939-1945, with a set of miniature medals and ribbon bars. The dirk, contained within the orgininal leather cover, is un-named but is connected with the sale of Edward Brown's sword which did bear his name. The 17.5inch blade is etched with a fouled anchor and GR monogram, Royal Navy anchor and wreath to the ancorn finial cross guard, wire bound fish skin grip with lion head pommel bearing knot and portapee, teh leather and gilt brass scabbard bears the maker name Mathews and Company Portsmouth, Also included are the numerous photographs both of Brown and taken by him, along with certificates of service from 1916 through to 1958, onboard the ships H.M.S. Vivid, Victory I, Emerald, Malcolm (Volunteer), Dolphin, Ark Royal, Whitehall, Pembroke and Wolverine. The certificates list Brown serving on H.M.S. Wolverine between 26/2/1937 and 24/2/1941 and the on board H.M.S. Beaufort between 10/8/41 and 17/8/43. The certificates then state Brown's service at the Small Ship's Maintenance Depot in Alexandria between 5/10/1943 and 27/1/1945 before service on HMS Imperieuse 30/3/45 and 14/6/45. The lot also includes Browns Pay book, Comission and compentancy certificates and various correspondence written to Brown from acquaintances a Duke of Connaught medal and Kings Badge for loyal service.
