George W. Jardine (1920-), Star Gatherers, signed, with artist's label on verso, oil on board, unframed, 61 x 28.5cm.; 24 x 11.25in. * Born and lived in Wallasey, Cheshire. He attended Wallasey School of Art, 1936, and Royal College of Art, 1939 - 43. From 1944 - 80 he was a lecturer in graphics at Liverpool College of Art. Jardine' s own pictures were early influenced by Indian miniature painting and Surrealism, especially Max Ernst. Jardine also painted many portraits. He showed with Sandon Studios Society and Liverpool Academy, both of which he was a member, the Royal Academy, the Royal Cambrian Academy and elsewhere. Had several solo exhibitions at Portal Gallery; also Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead; Bluecoat Gallery, Liverpool; in Belgium and America. The Williamson Arts Council, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and the University there hold examples.
