Peter Chippendale, The Promenade, acrylic.

Peter Chippendale (1951-), The Promenade, initialled, signed and dated 2013 on verso, acrylic on canvas, unframed, 45.5 x 61cm.; 18 x 24in. * Peter Chippendale is a Burnley artist. He was born in Burnley on 8th June 1951 and has lived in and around Burnley all his life. Peter knows and understands the industrial working class north and its people really well, their pleasures, likes and dislikes, how they behave at work and at play, and perhaps most importantly, their sense of humour. This shows in his paintings (the chicken on the lead for instance and conehead are just two of Peters little quirks.)Peter only took up art in 2007 when Christine, his wife, bought him some paints to help take his mind off medical treatment he was having. Once Peter started to paint though, he loved it. Even though Peter has no art training he found he had a talent he didn't know about and didn't even suspect. People liked his work and he began to sell his paintings to friends and acquaintances. Shortly after he started painting Peter visited the Lowry Centre in Salford. Lowry's work really inspired Peter. Lowry, like Peter, was a local man painting scenes that depicted the people and places that had always surrounded him, the no nonsense working class northern attitude to life. Mill towns, cotton mills and terraced houses and people just getting on with it. Artists` Resale Right (droit de suite) may apply to this lot.
