A Victorian silver four-piece tea and coffee set, teapot of squat baluster form on four scrolling feet, plain polished with floral repousse decoration, bird of prey finial to hinged lid, fluted spout and scroll handle, height approx. 17.5cm, weight approx. 25.4ozt, together with a matching coffee pot, height approx. 27cm, weight approx. 27.4ozt, also with a two-handled sugar bowl, height approx. 12.5cm, weight approx. 12.2ozt, and a milk jug, height approx. 16cm, weight approx. 9.1ozt, marks for William Robert Smily, London, 1851, a total gross weight of approx. 74.1ozt.
inscription to each piece 'Presented to Mr John Bailey by the colliers and workmen employed by Joseph Barnes Esq. as a token for their esteem for his honest and fair dealing with them during the five years of his management, 1855.'
