Russell Howarth (1927-), Rye Tor, Saddleworth, signed, inscribed on verso, oil on board, 36.5 x 44.5cm.; 14.5 x 17.5in. Russel Howarth was born in Oldham in 1927. He was educated at Oldham and worked as an Engineer from 1941-1992, but always drew and always painted. He taught Art, part-time, in Adult Education from 1962-1992. He has exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, The Chenil Gallery, London, and had one-man Exhibitions at the Uppermill Gallery, Uppermill Museum, the Haworth Art Gallery, Accrington, the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, and the Tib Lane Gallery, Manchester. He became a Member of the Saddleworth Group of Artists from 1951.
