Captain W. Brown, signed letter dated 13th

Captain W. Brown (1777 - 1857) signed letter dated 13th October 1805 off Cadiz, to the 'Honourable Lords Commissioners' stating that 'Mr Jeremiah Brown served as Lieutenant on board His Majesties Ship Ajax from the 1st June to the 13th October 1805', Brown states that Lieutenant Brown complied with general instructions and was not absent six weeks at a time. One sheet, 15.5cm x 19.5cm The Ajax was under Captain Brown's commanded as part of Calder's fleet during the action on the 22nd July against a combined fleet of French and Spanish ships at the Cape Finisterre in which the British manages to capture two Spanish ships. Captain Brown did not serve in Nelsons fleet during the battle of Trafalgar as he had been sent back to England as witness during Calder's court martial following the Battle of Cape Finisterre. Condition report: generally good overall condition with only minor signs of age.
