Admiral Sir Robert Calder (1745 -1818) signed letter dated January 2nd 1813, to Mr Philip Miller instructing Miller to 'act as Master of the Pyrenees until further hour' written on GR 1812 watermarked paper, 1 sheet folded, overall dimensions unfolded 32cm x 39.5 Admiral Sir Robert Calder commanded a fleet of fifteen British vessels which attached a larger combined fleet of twenty French and Spanish ships on 22 July 1805 at the Battle of Cape Finisterre, during the engagement two Spanish ships were captured before the battle ceased due to fog and nightfall. Much indignation was felt in England at the failure of Calder to re-engage the enemy fleet resulting in Calder's court martial held on 23 December 1805.
