Ultra rare set of WWI service worn Lattey's Patent Galilean sharpshooter's sights for the Lee Enfield .303 SMLE rifle. Brought back from WWI service by Ernest Wylson and accompanied by his Canada, INF, Oxford Rifles, 18, and beaver marksman badges,
See 'The British Sniper by Skennerton P.222 for further details on Lattey sights.
This set of sights was brought back from WWI service by the vendor's great uncle Ernest John Heber Wylson, service no. 53519. Wylson was part of the Canadian overseas expeditionary force attached to the Oxford rifles. Some photocopy research accompanies the set of sights on Wylson who was invalided out of fighting due to lung trouble, returning first to Oxford and then to Cananda. A scan of a Daily Sentinel-Review article dated November 5th 1917 describes Wylson's return to Canada, (wrongly naming him Jack) due to lung trouble, following 'fighting in some of the stiffest engagements at the front for about a year'.
