Halls percussion rifled cavalry carbine, with 18.5 inch barrel fitted with two bands, the breach mounted with dovetailed rear sight and marked U.S. S.North Mid. Conn. 1849, fitted with side saddle bar and ring, the stock engraved with two different owners initials T.S.W and A.W.
This is one of the 5,000 carbines which were part of the Fremont scandal, where .52 calibre smoothbore carbines made between 1848 and 1852 were rifled and had their breeches enlarged to take the .58 calibre Army issue rounds.
Section 58(2) Antique /obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence.
