Hollis Tasmanian Volunteers percussion .577 artillery carbine, 24-inch barrel fitted with bayonet lug and folding ladder sight, the lock stamped with maker's mark 'Isaac Hollis & Sons, Makers to Her Majesty's War Departments', the stock stamped 'Manufactured Expressly for Hebbert & Co London', the brass butt plate tang stamped TV190 for Hobart Town Artillery. The reverse of the stock carries Isaac Hollis maker's cartouche, the ramod numbered 160 and the bayonet lug 93.
This carbine is one of 150 examples purchased by the Tasmanian government from Hebbert and Co. of 8 Pall Mall, London who were agents for Hollis and Sons. This was part of a larger order of guns to arm volunteer Tasmanian units which included 1,000 P53 Enfield three-band rifles loaded by the British Government, and 50 Wilson capping breech-loading carbines also procured from Hebbert and Co.
Section 58(2) antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification ID will be required if the lot it to be posted out.
