Dame Laura Knight R.A. (British, 1877-1970), Circus horse leader and a clown, signed, watercolour and pencil, 36.5 x 26.5cm.; 14.5 x 10.5in. * In the 1930's Knight joined Carmo's circus and became their own official artist. Studied at Nottingham School of Art under Wilson Foster and at the Royal College of Art. A founder member of the Staithes Group. A prolific exhibitor with numerous hangings in the Alpine and Leicester Galleries, London, Liverpool and Manchester Art Galleries, the Royal Academy, Royal Watercolour Society and Society of Women Artists.
