A mid 19th century two-day marine chronometer by Thomas Roberts (34 Strand St. Liverpool). The three tiered, brass-bound mahogany cased with glass viewing lid, lifts to reveal brass bevelled chronometer on gimble bracket. The silvered face has both Roman and Arabic numerals and two subsidiary dials, with the maker's name in cursive. Two-day, chain driven fusee movement with Harrison maintaining power, spring detent escapement and blued helical hairspring. 19 x 18 x 18 cm. Contained within a secondary mahogany box with fittings in order to screw the container to the ship. 23 x 24 x 24 cm.
