A Great War D.C.M. group of four awarded to Private Samuel Thomas Lea Shropshire Yeomanry to include Territorial Force War Medal (1565 PTE. S.T. LEA. SHROPS. YEO.); Distinguished Conduct Medal G.V.R. (56713 PTE. S.T. LEA. 210/COY M.G.C.); British War Medal 1914-20 and Victory Medal (1568 PTE. S.T. LEA. SHROPS YEO.). From the 5302 SUPPLEMENT TO THE LONDON GAZETTE, 1 MAY, 1918.(30 April 1918) 56713 Pte. S. T. Lea, M.G.C. (Ellesmere). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. 'When acting as a company runner he volunteered to go back and bring in an officer who had been left behind with a badly broken leg. In spite of a cross fire from hostile machine guns and a heavy rifle fire at close range, he succeeded in bringing this officer away. He displayed the greatest courage and gallantry.
