Ships log of the East India Co. Ship 'Monarch' commanded by Captain C.G. Weller the journal kept by midshipman Edw. Hatchett. The log begins in July 23rd 1847 and ends in May 11th 1848 and records the voyage from London to Calcutta and back. The journal describes the passengers, (mainly military including 21st Scottish Fusiliers) as well as the accidental death of an 18 year old midshipman falling from the mizen - mast, also detailed is the Captain relieving the Ships Doctor for his continued drunkenness.
