C.H. Spurgeon (Charles Haddon, pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle, 1834-1892) Baptist preacher signed letter, dated September 29. 1890, sent from Westwood, Beulah Hill, Upper Norwood, addressed to the Field family. Also included in the lot is a photograph of The Field family, a handwritten note by Field noting all the places he has ministered and some pamphlets produced by Field titled 'Who Are The Baptists?
From the family of the late T.B. Field, a fellow Baptist minister, who saw Spurgeon preach at Cheddar Gorge, Somerset on 10th September 1862 and supplied an eyewitness account for Spurgeon's autobiography. Field became a local Baptist minister and helped supervise the move of the Crewe Baptist Church from Victoria Street and Underwood Lane to West Street in 1900.
