Thomas Finch Clocks

Thomas Finch was an English clockmaker active in London during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He was a member of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, with records indicating his activity from 1670 to 1706. Notably, Finch served as the Master of the Company in 1706.

Finch's workshop was located in the St. Martin's area of London. His craftsmanship is exemplified by surviving timepieces, such as an ebony veneered table clock. This clock features an inverted bell top with a turned handle and four cone finials, a 7.75-inch arched brass dial with a stylized wheatear border, and a twin fusee movement with verge escapement and rack striking on a bell. The backplate is elaborately engraved with foliate scrolls and a basket of fruit, framed by a matching wheatear border.

While detailed personal information about Thomas Finch is limited, his contributions to horology during a formative period in London's clockmaking history are evident through his work and leadership within the Clockmakers' Company.
