DANNY LANE

Born in Illinois, USA in 1955, artist and sculptor Danny Lane has been working in London since the 1980s. Lane is best known for his stunning large scale contemporary glass sculpture, but also produces statement furniture and smaller decorative items. His huge sculpture, Borealis, sits in the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit and is one of the largest glass sculptures in the world! Lane’s work is in museums, private and corporate collections world-wide!

Lane is best known for his creative use of glass, and many of his designs feature plates of glass designed to come alive with the play of sunlight. He originally trained as a painter, and uses strong, structural lines to define his pieces. His work remains popular with collectors and sells well, with early furniture from the 1980s being particularly sought after.

Lane sees himself as an ‘artist rather than a designer’, and shuns mass production, preferring to produce limited runs which helps keep values high. One of his most iconic designs is the Etruscan Chair, produced in a range of variations including glass and marble.
