Wardrobes,  Cupboards & Coffers

A coffer or jointed chest from the seventeenth century astonishingly may easily be found in existence today. A storage chest for the home or marriage chest can often carry a date and the initials of the couple carved in the front rail or panel. They remain good value for money at prices ranging from £400 to £800.

Cupboards are useful storage often used in a kitchen. In Cheshire a set of housekeepers cupboards are very desirable. Late eighteenth century or early nineteenth century, constructed from oak with mahogany cross-banding, some with inlays, with very rare examples made to contain a long case clock movement.

During the Victorian period the British became considerably more clothes-conscious with wardrobes becoming a staple requirement in the home. Hanging cupboards lined with fabric kept everything in order and remain to this day a feature within the bedroom of most homes. Edwardian inlaid bedroom suites can be of fantastic quality however their values remain disappointing - could this be an item of furniture worth buying?
