Fox Inn Haslington
Commemorative jug to be sold in March
The jug is typical of Staffordshire productions around the 1860-1880 period and reads ‘M. Latham Fox Inn Haslington’ with a print of a fox just below the spout. This fabulous piece of local history has been consigned by a lady who’s grandfather once ran the new Fox Inn in Haslington which is still in existence and is situated across the road from the site of the original Fox Inn.
The Tithe map for Haslington (1836-51) shows the land where the Fox pub currently stands to be owned by John Latham with a house, gardens and other buildings on the land occupied by a Matthew Latham. The original Fox Inn which this jug commemorates has now been knocked down and the site is now part of the sports field for Haslington Primary school. Records show that the Latham family were landlords from 1850 to 1874 when John Scott took over the Inn.
The Fox Inn jug will be sold as part of our 16th March Gallery Sale starting at 10am, viewing 15th March 9am-5pm and on morning of sale 9-10am.
