Gerry Anderson and Murano Glass...

Gerry Anderson, Mouseman & Murano Glass in our upcoming 20th Century Auction

The next auction is our 20th Century Art & Design and furniture auction on Thursday 18th February at 14:00. The sale has a wide range of items including contemporary art, puppets, ceramics, art glass, posters, furniture and a number of mid 20th Century engineering models.

Below I have chosen a few highlights from the auction that are sure to catch the eye of buyers next week. First, is lot 17, an impressive painting by Vera Cuningham titled "Leda and the Swan". This rather large oil on canvas has been hanging in our cafe area for around a month now and is often admired by various staff members when making a brew. There are twelve Cuningham's in this weeks sale so if this work is a bit too large for your home there are plenty of other suitable options.

Next is a collection of six Gerry Anderson puppets from four of his iconic Supermarionation television programmes. These are Stingray, Supercar, Captain Scarlet and my personal favourite, The Secret Service. The puppets are not originals from the shows but are exact replicas made by an enthusiast. In fact, the puppets are actually taken from moulds of the originals so are as close as you can get to the real things.

There is also a good collection of Murano glass in our upcoming auction of many shapes and sizes. My pick of the bunch is lot 150, an Alfredo Barbini glass sculpture, with red and blue coloured glass inclusions. Barbini was one of Murano's leading figures of the twentieth century and was known for his heavy, thick sculptural forms. This piece is a good size and would be a great addition to any room.

Finally, we have some wonderful examples of Mouseman furniture. Here at Wilson55, we have a great track record of selling Mouseman with a large number of enthusiasts buying from us to add to their collection. The highlight of this sale is lot 258, an oak and burr oak stool with a dish top seat on octagonal legs. The burr oak is the real star of the show here, the textured dish top seat adding to an already elegant design.

The auction will begin at 14:00 this Thursday with bidding available on the-saleroom.com and our own free online bidding platform 'Wilson Live'. You can also leave a commission bid prior to the sale via our website or by emailing us at auctions@wilson55.com.
