Fairies design, which covers each side of the vase in lustre glazes, was part of Warr’s first series collection and limited to only nine pieces, this one being number seven. The idea behind the Fairies pattern is to illustrate the lighter and darker sides of life using fairies as a real paradox.
Our April Fine Art auction will feature the Fairies vase by Heidi Warr.
The light side has elegant and graceful fairies amongst elaborate floral designs. In contrast, the dark side has faires with a sinister and forceful look, as well as depicting bottle kilns and smoke for which the artist comments ‘For me there is a real paradox about them, on one hand belching out their fumes in an industrial way and on the other hand giving birth to some of the finest most collectable pottery in the world.’
Heidi Warr studied at Yeovil College before taking a job as pot glazer at Dennis Chinaworks in Somerset but soon found her true calling as a decorator and designer soon after. Since 2012 Warr has worked independently making each vase herself by hand and lavishing it with exquisite decoration.
The presale estimate for the vase is £1,000 -1,500.
