June Sales Report

Our June Fine Jewellery & Watches auction featured a fantastic array of unique and sought-after jewellery sourced from valuations and consignments across Cheshire and beyond. With a brilliant selection of jewels, including antique pieces, modern designer items, diamond and gem-set lots, this sale attracted a great deal of interest from our viewers and bidders. 

Diamonds

The 'headline act' of this sale was a selection of beautiful diamond jewellery, consigned from keen collectors in the area. The biggest diamond, a 4ct diamond solitaire set in a classic platinum ring mount unsurprisingly took top spot and sold for £10,370 to a delighted Cheshire lady.

Another of the solitaire rings to fly included a beautiful 2.21ct diamond solitaire ring in an eye-catching platinum setting. This diamond boasted the optimum 'D' colour grade, and was accompanied by an E.G.L certificate. This must have been one of the most popular pieces on the viewing events prior to the sale and eventually sold for £6,710.

A couple of diamond eternity rings set with marquise cut diamonds and baguette cut diamonds respectively fetched £1,830 and £1,098. But it wasn't just the diamond rings to sell well, a pair of beautiful diamond stud earrings totalling an impressive 2.45cts sold to a local collector for £2,440. Elsewhere a beautiful diamond set heart pendant boasting 2cts of brilliant cuts reached £1,708.

Signed Jewellery

This sale included a wonderful range of signed pieces from significant names from the 19th and 20th centuries. Market-fresh pieces in fantastic condition attracted a lot of interest from collectors who battled it out through commission, telephone and online bids. A distinctively 1960s necklace set with polished amethyst crystals and cultured pearls in tactile and textured 18ct gold tapered links by German jeweller Grossé was both signed and dated by the maker, and eventually settled at £2,928.

A beautifully finished 9ct gold Liver Bird brooch by renowned Birmingham makers Alabaster & Wilson saw a huge amount of interest and a starring space in the pages of the Liverpool Echo. Commissioned by Miss Margaret Hall, the Lady Mayoress of Liverpool from 1935-6, this piece really caught the attention of our bidders and far exceeded its original estimate to reach £2,196. An opal, diamond and enamel pendant by Mrs Newman, complete in original fitted case was consigned on a valuation day. In immaculate condition and with accompanying brooch fitting, this unique and significant piece from Englands 'First Female Artist Jeweller' reached £1,952. Read more about this piece here.

Gem-Set Jewels

Colourful, gem-set pieces were also highly popular this sale, with the sapphires reigning supreme! A fantastic 18ct gold blue sapphire ring had a fantastic depth of colour and sold for £4,148. Meanwhile a sunshine-yellow sapphire and diamond cluster ring, consigned from a local lady attracted a huge amount of interest and sold for £3,050.

Undoubtedly the most colourful lot in the sale, and the one that was most requested on the viewing events was a fabulous fan brooch, set in rainbow hues with calibre cut ruby, fire opal, citrine, peridot, tanzanite, sapphire and amethyst lines, terminated with a brilliant cut diamond line. This sensational piece sold to a local collector for £1,464.

Antique Jewellery

Finally, a truly sensational diamond and enamel ring with a fascinating history captured the attention of collectors worldwide. With links to Charles II, this fantastic piece boasted a rose cut diamond weighing approximately 1.50cts given to Charles Bertie in 1649 as a token of thanks for the Bertie family loyalty and service to the Royalist cause. With inscription detailing the event to the reverse of the later ring setting, this piece had remained in the family for hundreds of years and inherited by our vendor. After intense and determined bidding from both the phonelines and the internet, this piece eventually sold to an avid collector. A fine 17th century rose-cut diamond presented by Charles II, the oval rose cut diamond weighing approx. 1.50cts, within a later blue enamel surround, the reverse of the setting bearing the inscription 'Given by King Charles the 2nd to the Hon'ble Charles Bertie, Son of Montague Earl of Lindsey 1649' with pierced tapered shoulders, maker's marks TT, ring size R1/2, gross weight 8.5g. Sold for £8,296.
