Featuring in our next Fine Jewellery & Watches Auction on Thursday 18th March is a fantastic Omega timepiece from the sought-after Planet Ocean line.
The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is an iconic modern dive watch that looks good enough for everyday, regular use. Building on the Omega Seamaster legacy that stretches back to 1948, the Planet Ocean was designed as a luxury and functional diver's timepiece. Combining form with functionality, this impressive timepiece was introduced at Baselworld in 2005. The Planet Ocean watch was truly a diver's watch, boasting a water resistance to 600 metres or 2,000 feet, which was twice the water resistance of the Seamaster Professional at the time.
Since its launch, the Planet Ocean has been released in an array of case sizes and variations, enabling Omega enthusiasts to select the timepiece to suit their personal taste and lifestyle perfectly. The popularity of this timepiece is of course due to its exceptional design but also through the association with the James Bond films, arguably Omega's greatest marketing tactic.
Omega has been featured in Bond films before, the Seamaster Professional featured in 1995's Golden Eye, worn by Pierce Brosnan. However, the Planet Ocean has been worn in two Bond films, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, adding the the desirability of this eye-catching wristwatch.
A stainless steel Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean watch, circa 2006, ref. 22095000, the circular black signed dial with orange arabic quarter markers and baton hour markers, with date aperture to 3 and orange bezel, automatic movement cal. 2500, serial no. 80949140, with stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp, case diameter 43mm. With maker's box, booklet and international warranty cards.
Lot 139 is a Planet Ocean wristwatch dating to around 2006, one year after the launch of the line and the year of Casino Royale. This piece is in wonderful condition, complete with box and papers. Boasting a co-axial escapement 2500 calibre movement that has a power reserve of 48 hours, stainless steel bracelet and exceptional orange bezel. A wonderful collector's piece, this watch is offered with a reasonable guide price of £2,000-3,000.
