Calatrava History

The Calatrava collection was launched in 1932, establishing itself as the gentleman's classic round wristwatch thanks to its elegant, timeless outline and mechanical excellence. It remains one of Patek Philippe's most popular designs, with both ladies and gents models produced in a number of variations. Our model is an exceptional and rare timepiece, featuring a sought-after exhibition back that displays the sensational full complication including micro rotor that powers this timepiece.

The Calatrava has to be the ultimate gents dress watch. Boasting simplicity, style and reliability, this classic timepiece contains everything you need from a watch and nothing that is surplus to requirements. With a classically shaped case, 35mm in diameter, this watch is a streamlined and traditionally inspired piece. Featuring Patek's signature 'hobnail bezel' that was launched in the 1970s, the iconic bezel adds some texture to the piece whilst remaining understated. With straight narrow lugs and a solid gold brick link braclet with folding clasp, this 18ct gold model is in fantastic condition.

Calatrava 5120-1J Movement

Whilst retaining a certain refinement to the dial, the sapphire crystal exhibition back to this piece displays the breathtaking complication of this watch. Notably, the 5120 Calatrava boasts the sought-after cal. 240 micro rotor. This ingenius piece of watchmaking allows for a slimline case and is the more premium option between the two automatic winding types seen in this model (central or micro).

The automatic movement as such is 2.5mm thick, with gold micro rotor and 27 jewels. It also boasts a Gyromax balance, patented by Patek Philippe in 1949, preventing air resistance and minimizing inertia. The 240 calibre has a 48 hour power reserve and is also water-resistant up to 30m.

This remarkable piece is offered with both inner and outer original box, dustcloth and spare links. The paperwork with the lot confirms its dating to around 2010 and comprises both a certificate of origin dated 2010 together with an extract from the archives certificate from 2019. Balancing presence and simplicity beautifully, this truly is a watch connoisseur's  piece. For further enquiries on this lot contact us via the email below.
