Pocket Watches A Single Owner Collection
A single-owner collection of pocket watches has been consigned for our first Fine Jewellery & Watches Sale of the year. A stunning collection, amassed over a lifetime, our selection of hunter, half hunter and open face pocket watches dating from 1790 to the 1930s include 18ct gold, 9ct gold and silver examples. Below are a few highlights from the collection, up for auction on Thursday 19th March.
Lot 398: A Victorian 18ct gold open face pocket watch by Litherland Davies & Co., the circular gold tone dial with foliate detailing and Roman numeral hour markers, key wound movement with foliate watch cock, rose cut diamond endstone, signed and numbered Litherland Davies & Co., Liverpool, No.9127, within a case bearing hallmarks for THJH, Chester, 1884, featuring repoussé decoration of cupid to the back and foliate detailing to the surround and bow, case diameter 48mm, gross weight 110.6g. £800-1,200
Instantly eye-catching and exquisitely detailed is this 18ct gold pocket watch by Litherland Davies & Co., with a breathtaking cupid repousse decoration to the case back, the movement and workings of this watch are equally as captivating. By renowned watchmakers, Litherland Davies & Co. who were operating in Liverpool from 1816 onwards, this beautiful watch with a wonderful gold tone dial, foliate detailing and gold numbers should really catch the attention of pocket watch collectors.

An excellent example of a Victorian pocket watch in a fantastic condition, this 18ct gold open face pocket watch by Thompson & Vine is completed with a substantial Albert Chain.
Lot 394: A George III 18ct gold and diamond verge pair cased pocket watch by William Tarleton, the white enamel dial with gold hands, Roman numeral hour markers, Arabic and baton outer minutes track, verge movement with finely pierced and engraved watch cock, rose cut diamond endstone, movement and engraved outer plate signed and numbered 'Wm Tarleton, Liverpool, 8172' within an 18ct gold case with hallmarks for Joseph Carpenter, London, 1790, and outer tortoiseshell yellow metal case, case diameter 45mm, outer case diameter 54mm, gross weight 123.6g. £700-900
A fantastic early pocket watch that is still in working condition, this pair cased pocket watch has a truly spectacular movement. With rose cut diamond endstone and pierced lion detailing, this 18ct gold watch bears hallmarks for London, 1790. Within a tortoiseshell case, the watch and movement itself has stood the test of time beautifully.

Lot 388: A Victorian 18ct gold full hunter pocket watch by John Hawley & Son Ltd., the 18ct gold case with foliate surround and bow, opening to reveal a circular white enamel dial signed 'Centre Seconds Chronograph,' Roman numeral hour markers and Arabic outer minutes track, keyless movement signed and numbered John Hawley & Son Ltd., 77381, case with hallmarks for John Helsby, Chester, 1897, case diameter 57mm, gross weight 170.4g. £600-800
This wonderful watch was made by renowned watchmakers John Hawley & Son Ltd, established in 1857, the firm was based in both London and Coventry. With a stunning foliate edge to the case, this beautifully finished timepiece is still in working order.
Lot 403: An early 20th century Omega silver half hunter pocket watch, the circular dial with Roman numeral hour markers, subsidiary seconds dial to 6 and outer minutes track, keyless movement signed Omega, to the case with blue enamel Roman numeral hour markers, bearing import marks for Selling Agency, London, numbered 3997422, case diameter 48mm, gross weight 91.4g. £200-300
Undeniably stylish, this Omega half hunter or Napoleon pocket watch is the epitome of class. With alternating hands and striking blue enamel hour markers to denote the time with accuracy with the case closed, this Omega pocketwatch is in remarkable condition and sure to attract the interest of collectors.
