After such an exciting sale, we are delighted to share the results of our Fine & Classic Auction, held on 25th September. On offer was a fantastic selection of silver, clocks, bronzes, Asian art, oils and watercolours, books, furniture, rugs and much more. In particular, the sale saw some suprising results for our Asian art and silver items, with several items exceeding way beyond their estimates.
Sale Highlights.
Our collection of Chinese items delivered some huge surprises. After some fierce international competition, multiple pieces achieved sales considerably above their estimates. This performance firmly underscores the enduring global appeal of fine Chinese art, confirming it as a high-value, high-interest sector.
Lot 52, "A Chinese 'Russet' Soapstone Carving', was estimated to be in the range of £80 - £120. It was to our surprise and delight that the hammer price for this small sculpture ended up being £2,500.

Similarly, a "Chinese Doucai 'Lotus' Bowl with Qianlong Mark" was estimated to be in the range of £300 - £500, and ended up selling for a staggering £2,200.

Silver Shines Bright
Our specialist James Spiridion has taken over the silver section and marked the occasion with remarkable success. In his first auction overseeing the category, he sold 100% of all the silver lots, securing prices that were consistently higher than our usual average. This is an outstanding start to his new responsibility.

William Mellor's Enduring Appeal
The market for established artists remains incredibly strong. Renowned landscape artist William Mellor was a particular highlight, once again proving his enduring appeal. Both of our featured paintings by Mellor not only surpassed their estimated values but did so by a significant margin, solidifying his position as a highly sought-after name.
