Shipping a gun

How to ship a gun if you cannot collect in person.

Key Points

We offer an inhouse UK Mainland and Northern Ireland shipping service. All lots in the Firearms, Arms and Militaria sale have postage quotes added at the bottom of the catalogue listing these quotes are added three weeks before the auction date.

We are a small team and due to the high level of enquiries and the large amount of admin guns create post sale, it can take up to 3 weeks for lots to be posted out. If your order is urgent we can recommend other carriers who can deliver items to you with greater speed.

Non-licenced antique guns (section 58-2) can be sent to a home address but we will need you to email ID through to us before we can send guns out.

Air guns can only be sent to a Registered Firearms Dealer unless the airgun dates to pre 1939.

We can do an RFD transfer for licenced guns but will need to transfer the gun onto your licence first.

Shipping and delivery of guns purchased at auction.

We can transfer guns onto your licence in a traditional face to face transaction however if you live a distance away from our salerooms or are unable to travel it is still possible for UK buyers of a licenced section 1 or section 2 gun to have it delivered to a registered firearms dealer local to you.

Licencing requirements.

Following the auction, you will be required to post your licence to us at Wilson55, Market Street, Nantwich, CW5 5DG. We will then check that the licencing is correct before transferring the gun onto your licence. We will then return your completed licence with the gun to your RFD. You will need to inform your licencing authority of your purchase within seven days of receiving your licence back. As you do not know the details of the original owner of the gun please inform your licencing authority that you have bought it from Wilson55 Auctioneers RFD1092.

RFD transfer.

We can send the gun you bought at auction by courier to your nominated Registered Firearms Dealer (RFD) or gunshop which holds an RFD certificate. Our charge for delivery is normally around £35 plus VAT for UK mainland but this can vary depending on the gun you have bought. Sometimes RFD’s charge for this service at their end so it is worth checking with them first before organising this method of delivery. If you would like to organise this service, please contact your local RFD and discuss this with them as well as emailing the name and email of your RFD to chris.large@wilson55.com

Shipping airguns.

UK law dictates that an airgun cannot be posted to a home address. The only exemption to this is if the airgun is classified as antique being produced prior to 1939.

We can hand over purchased airguns in a traditional face to face transaction at our salerooms however if you are a mainland UK buyer who lives a distance away from our salerooms or you’re unable to travel then the item can be sent to you in a similar manner listed above regarding licenced section 1 and section 2 guns only without the need for a licence or the need to inform a licencing authority. We can send the airgun by courier to your nominated Registered Firearms Dealer (RFD) or gunshop which holds an RFD certificate, our charge for delivery is normally around £35 plus VAT for UK mainland but this can vary depending on the gun you have bought.

Shipping of deactivated and antique guns.

Deactivated guns and antique guns which qualify for section 58(2) status can be shipped by us to you directly providing you live in mainland UK. Please email us to book this. We will need to see a scan of ID to check you are over the age of 18 before we can send the gun out to you.

Shipping guns outside of the UK

If you live outside of the UK then you will need to instruct a UK based firearms exporter in order to send a gun you have bought at auction to you. An exporter is needed regardless of the licenced status of the gun in the UK or the country you live in. We can recommend UK based gun exporters. Please email chris.large@wilson55.com for more information.
