Studio Pottery and Moorcroft

Over the last couple of years, there has been a clear increase of interest in modern and contemporary studio ceramics by makers such as John Maltby, Bernard Leach, Lucie Rie and many more. Our 20th Century auction in November 2020 had a great collection of Maltby that soared above the high estimate, the highlight being a footed dish that sold for £850 (surface detail below). These prices were achieved without a physical viewing with buyers bidding confidently after using our website to look at the multiple images and detailed condition reports on offer.

Being situated on the Staffordshire border means that we regularly deal with collections of Moorcroft pottery. Moorcroft has been producing their iconic wares since 1897, with their designs proving popular with buyers for over 100 years. Moorcroft comes in all shapes and sizes and can be recognised by its archetypal tubelining designs often depicting flowers, animals or landscape scenes. We are seeing an increased demand for Moorcroft pottery at auction and would be delighted to value your items for one of our upcoming sales.

If you have any items of studio pottery or Moorcroft that you wish to sell please contact our specialist Harry Pickup at harry.pickup@wilson55.com or complete our online valuation form here.
