German S. 98/05 n.A. bayonet, by V.C Shilling, stamped with crown over W and 17 for 1917, as well as 1920's date stamp.
This is one of the bayonets the German army was allowed to keep following the Paris Peace Conference signed on the 28th June 1919. Stamped on the right crossguard is the 1920's date stamp illustrating that it is a legal weapon for the new German army. The mark also prevented German soldiers from taking advantage of the cash rewards offered to civilians to hand in WWI surplus weaponry.
